Mythbusting: If my data is encrypted, why do I need to secure my storage?
Let’s explore one of the most common myths of securing storage and backup systems.
Storage systems are hidden away and hard to detect, and it would be extremely difficult for attackers to get anywhere near them. So why bother securing them?
This is very far from the truth.
Social engineering tactics can fool even the most experienced storage admin, and all it takes is a click on a fictitious link in an email, to dump malware onto the network. From here, the road to directly controlling the storage device is nice and easy for the attacker.
Now back to reality:
It’s much easier to get into the storage layer than you think! Don’t fall victim to this common myth.
